THE STORY
Pronounced “pownch-key” in native Poland, Paczkis are pillowy, filled pastries often covered with powdered sugar and created in heaven. The history dates back to when Roman Catholics wanted to use up their rich ingredients like sugar, lard and cream which were forbidden during Lent. Immigrants brought the tradition over to places like Chicago and it is still very much celebrated at such institutions as Weber's Bakery, Kolatek's Bakery and Racine Bakery. So celebrate Paczki Day this year with a dozen Paczkis, maybe some Tums and our new tee! (inspired by vintage Polka album covers)
